Learning while working: how skills development can be supported through workplace learning
The more highly qualified people are, the more likely they are to participate in learning activities. However, people also tend do less lifelong learning as they grow older, irrespective of their qualification levels. This is especially true in countries where overall participation in lifelong learning is low. This general pattern emerges from various surveys, even though the Continuing training and Adult education surveys suggest that participation is higher than the lifelong learning indicator shows (1). Older low qualified workers are especially difficult to reach, even though they need lifelong learning most. Almost 60 % of Europe’s 74 million low-qualified citizens are over 45 years old. This is a matter of concern, as most of the 2020 workforce is already on the labour market and qualification demands are rising even in elementary occupations.

Heading for success: or how not to title your paper
The citation analysis of papers according to title characteristics is better at telling authors what to avoid than what to include. Our results, combined with others, suggest that a high-impact paper should be neither too short nor too long (somewhere between 30 and 40 characters appears to be the sweet spot for papers published in Cell). It may also be advisable to avoid question marks and exclamation marks (though colons and commas do not seem to have a negative impact on subsequent citation). And even when you think you have a clever joke to work in to a title, it probably won’t help you gain citations. Finally, while a catchy title can help get readers to look at your paper, it’s not going to turn a bad paper into a good one.

Education at a Glance
I governi dei Paesi OCSE vanno alla ricerca di politiche educative più efficaci coniugando questo sforzo alla ricerca di risorse aggiuntive per rispondere ad una costante ed emergente domanda di formazione. Education at a Glance offre indicatori di rendimento e di processo che possono promuovere all'interno di ciascun Paese una riflessione approfondita sulle performance dei sistemi educativi in relazione alle performance di altri paesi. Il rapporto propone ogni anno un aggiornamento degli indicatori più importanti che la comunità professionale degli esperti propone come tra i più approrpiati per valutare su un piano internazionale il rendimento dei sistemi educativi. Gli indicatori guardano agli attori dell'educazione (docenti, studenti, dirigenti, genitori), alle risorse economiche investite, ai risultati di apprendimento nei curricolari di base (scienze, matematica, lettura).

A project-based learning endeavor that made a difference
Indiana science teacher Michael Baer began a project-based lesson with a group of high-school students in 2009 that grew to unite the entire K-12 school district, plus the local community, to find a way to provide clean drinking water to residents of Haiti. In the end, a small group of students and teachers traveled to Haiti to implement their solutions and help install new purification devices

The Best Evidence Encyclopedia is a free web site created by the Johns Hopkins University School of Education's Center for Data-Driven Reform in Education (CDDRE) under funding from the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education. It is intended to give educators and researchers fair and useful information about the strength of the evidence supporting a variety of programs available for students in grades K-12.

The Best Evidence Encyclopedia provides summaries of scientific reviews produced by many authors and organizations, as well as links to the full texts of each review. The summaries are written by CDDRE staff members and sent to review authors for confirmation.
